Five things to know before you buy

From the team that's been on the other side of 200+ proposals.

  1. Set your budget first

Sensible spend varies enormously. Lab-grown stones offer more size per dollar; natural stones hold name recognition. Neither is wrong — just decide before you start shopping, not after a salesperson shows you something out of range.

  2. Learn the 4 C's basics

Cut drives sparkle more than any other factor. Color and clarity above certain grades are imperceptible to the naked eye. Carat is personal preference. Spend on cut, save on the rest.

  3. Know her ring size

Borrow a ring she already wears on that finger, or request a free ring sizer from any of the retailers above. Resizing is fixable; getting the wrong stone is not.

  4. Give yourself 4-6 weeks

Custom settings take time. Shipping, inspection, and resizing can add days. Don't let the proposal date force a rushed decision.

  5. Don't forget the proposal

The ring is half the story. The moment matters just as much. See how we plan proposals →
